Reiss in London, together with copy (enclosed therein) of my letter of the 25th to Mr. Hade Gardner, because this letter deals with the fresh difficulty which has arisen from the blacklisting of the Guaranty Trust Company.
Short-lived as this was, it put me again into a most embarrassing position with all people concerned, including the Texas Company, who, as all New Yorkers, look with pride upon these big institutions of theirs.

However, as I wrote Messrs. Reiss, I am in hopes of righting also this matter, expert as I have become by now in this line. In doing so, I shall have to take upon myself, on behalf of my company, a rather serious responsibility and risk which is no less than that, should, for reasons which nobody can foresee, the Guaranty Trust Company be once more blacklisted - absurd as this would be in all the circumstances - your Bank might be compelled to hold up the funds collected or
